Mobile elevating work platforms (MEWPs) are available in a variety of types. This guide examines the largest MEWP manufacturers with a focus on the North American market.

MEWPs used to be called Aerial Work Platforms (AWP). It is common to hear the terms “Aerial Work Platform” or “Aerial Work Platform manufacturer” be used interchangeably with MEWP. However, MEWP is the current, most acceptable definition for the machines that help workers access and complete jobs at height.

MEWP platforms help construction workers with material lifting and material handling on job sites. Common types of aerial equipment include scissor lifts, boom lifts, and telehandlers.

In the Americas, lifts are governed by ANSI Standards. ANSI A92.22 standards for safe use and ANSI A92.24 standards for training will be in effect starting December 10, 2019.
